Songs You Should Hear 5/21- Here's to the State of George W.

Eddie Vedder- Here's To The State of George W.

There's a song by the 60's folk singer Phil Ochs called Here's To the State of Mississippi, and this song is essentially a re-write of that one. From what I can find out about it, Tim Robbins, the actor, originally played it in concerts during the Vote for Change tour that went on in 2004 for John Kerry. Then, according to the Pearl Jam Ten Club website Eddie Vedder updated the song further. Here's Eddie singing it on September 11, 2007. The great line "Here's to the land you've torn out the heart of" comes straight out of the Phil Ochs original.
