The chorus is the same melody as the Barry Manilow song Mandy, but the words are better.

"You won't say it now but in your heart it's loud, 'My feelings are more important than yours. Drop dead, I don't care, I won't worry'".

"Oh Mandy, well you came and you gave without taking but I sent you away. Oh Mandy,
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking."

The Strokes are more accurate. (Although "you kissed me and stopped me from shaking" is a nice line).
